Huawei BBU5900 — Distributed Baseband Unit (DBS5900 Platform)

1. Product Overview

The Huawei BBU5900 is the baseband processing unit of Huawei’s DBS5900 distributed base station platform, designed to perform multi-standard baseband signal processing, synchronization, and O&M management for macro radio sites.
It connects to remote radio units (RRUs) through CPRI optical interfaces, forming a distributed or centralized-RAN architecture that reduces feeder loss and improves coverage and capacity.
The unit supports 2G, 3G, 4G, NB-IoT, and 5G NR operation through software-defined radio (SDR) capability.


2. Architecture and Configuration

  • Chassis type: 19-inch rack-mountable, 2U height indoor cabinet.

  • Platform structure: Modular design supporting main control, baseband, fan, and power boards.

  • Main Control Unit (UMPT): Models include UMPTe2, UMPTe3, UMPTg2, UMPTg3.
